School Tours

Tours are based on an integrated curriculum that supports state standards in the visual arts, math, science, language arts, and social studies.

How do I schedule a tour?

Call Brad Boston in the Education Department at (304) 529-2701, Ext. 21.

When are school tours available?

Tours are scheduled Tuesday through Friday at 9:30 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. Tours are approximately 1 hour long.

Art Parts

This general tour features art from the museum’s permanent collection as well as traveling exhibitions. As students tour through the museum, they will become familiar with the “parts of art”: elements of art and principles of design. In addition, students will be exposed to varieties of cultures through art.

Grade level: all grades

Arts Integrated Tour

This tour is an integrated arts tour for Cabell County fourth grades. The Huntington Symphony’s Chamber Orchestra partners with the Art Center School of Dance and the Museum to provide this outstanding immersion in the arts.
Dates: September-October
Grade: Cabell County fourth grades

Holiday

Celebrate the holidays with your students at the Huntington Museum of Art. This tour, specifically designed for pre-K through second grades, is a festive occasion for children as they view paintings of snowy scenes, enjoy holiday music and make colorful art.
Dates: December
Grade level: pre-K through second grade

ADD IT UP

ADD IT UP is an art and math integrated tour for 2nd and 3rd graders. State standards in art and math are addressed in this fun-filled tour that shows how art and math merge in real-life situations.
Dates: winter/spring
Grade level: 2nd and 3rd grades

Portfolio

Portfolio is an exhibition of art work from the middle schools and high schools in the Tri-State area of West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky. This tour features the accomplishments of fellow students in the visual arts.
Dates: April 12 - May 11, 2008
Grade level: middle school, high school

All tours for pre-K through middle school have a hands-on art making component.
