Macy's Presents Hilltop: Books Only will take place at the Huntington Museum of Art on Saturday, August 19, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, August 20, 2017, from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 on August 19 and free on August 20 courtesy of Macy's. This annual used book sale is a fundraiser for the Huntington Museum of Art. The public is welcome to take part in a Solar Eclipse Party behind the Huntington Museum of Art on August 21, 2017, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Solar glasses will be provided while supplies last. People are welcome to bring lawn chairs. In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled.
Please join us for a Collector's Roundtable discussion during the August Tuesday Tour on August 22, 2017, at 7 p.m. This is a Macy's Free Tuesday event. Speakers include Dr. Joseph Touma, David Perdue, Dr. Peter Chirico, Jack Bourdelais and John Witek. This event is being presented in conjunction with the exhibit titled "Visionary Benefactor: Alex Booth and the HMA Collection." Refreshments will be served.
The Museum Shop is hosting a book launch for "Through Children's Eyes: Exploring the Huntington Museum of Art" by Suzanne Alexander. Refreshments will be served. The book, which is published by Headline Books, will be available for purchase in the Museum Shop and Suzanne Alexander will be on hand to autograph copies of the book. The Huntington Museum of Art invites anyone interested in volunteering to be a docent to attend Docent Open House on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served. A docent is someone who volunteers time to lead schoolchildren and museum visitors on guided tours. No prior experience or background in art is required. Those who appreciate art and nature and enjoy sharing their knowledge with others may want to learn more about the program. Art docents work with HMA’s Education Department and spend 90 minutes a week learning about HMA exhibits and art in general. The group meets at HMA on Monday mornings, but also takes occasional field trips to other museums. HMA is also seeking volunteers to serve as nature docents to give tours on HMA's nature trail system. Nature docents also work with HMA's Education Department and will meet once a month during HMA's trail tour season.
Please join us for the Huntington Museum of Art's 2nd Annual Art Auction fundraiser taking place on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at 2 p.m. Admission to the event is $10 per person, and includes refreshments and hors d'oeuvres. For those who wish to bid, but cannot remain for the live auction, the museum will offer the opportunity to bid by phone as well as to leave bids to be executed by the auctioneer. A buyer’s premium of 10% will be added to all successful bids.
