Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent with a minimum of two years experience in building maintenance and/or related fields. Must have a working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural building systems. This may be validated through traditional training programs or training provided by vendors or demonstrated skill. Must have good craftsmanship skills. Must have a working knowledge of basic safety requirements for handling chemical substances and the ability to comprehend MSDS sheets. Must have a valid personal driver’s license and insurable driving record.
Language Skills:
Must be able to read and comprehend the written word. Must be able to communicate in a manner pleasing and informative to other staff and the public. Must be able to engage in open dialog with staff and others at internal Museum meetings.
Mathematical Skills:
Must have basic math skills and the ability to use a calculator. Must be able to calculate measurements and dimensions as it relates to the operations of facility equipment and for any construction purposes.
Reasoning Ability:
The ability to identify, define and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or scheduled form. Must be able to analyze what needs to be done, rank those tasks in priority and make sure the tasks are executed.
Computer Skills:
Must have basic computer skills; the ability to use word processing software effectively, other software that are specific to the job, the internet and e-mail.
Legal Requirements:
Must be familiar with and comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations that govern the operations of the Department.

Accountability:
Reports to Director of Facilities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Complete in a workmanlike, conscientious, and timely manner all facility maintenance tasks assigned to employee.
- Accept responsibility for all tasks assigned and for any emergency situations that may arise in the absence of supervisor.
- Attend, and contribute to, staff and other required meetings.
- To have a flexible schedule to deal with situations that arise unexpectedly at the Museum.
- Work with volunteer workers as needed.
- May be required to open and close the Museum and studios.
- May be required to work additional hours outside of regularly scheduled shifts assisting with rentals and events.
- May be required to perform administrative duties overseen by the Facilities Director, such as purchase orders and monthly reports.
- Maintain effective working relationships with the public, volunteers, and all other Museum staff. Work as an effective member of the Museum team.
- Handle visitor or volunteer complaints appropriately.
- Drive a motor vehicle when required.
- Be familiar with, observe and follow all Museum emergency, safety, confidentiality and security policies and procedures.
- Follow all directives in the Museum Personnel Handbook.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the operations of the Department.
- Maintain all files and records required by the job
- Perform all other reasonable duties that may be assigned by the Director of Facilities.

- Successful, timely and craftsman like completion of all assigned facilities maintenance tasks.

- Ability to successfully follow directions and complete delegated tasks.
- The success of the employee in communicating effectively and developing good working relationships with other Museum staff and the public.
- The degree of cooperation and teamwork achieved with other Museum employees.
- The quality of recommendations to the employees Department Director which alerts him or her to problem areas or trends that may adversely affect the Museum, or which improve the operations of the Facilities Department or the Museum as a whole.
- Compliance with all policies and procedures whether written or understood of the Museum
- Ability to engage successfully in open dialog with other staff at internal meetings.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; use hands for object manipulation; reach with hands and arms; and use verbal communication. The employee must possess agility when working in close quarters such as equipment rooms and elsewhere. The employee is often required to climb or balance and use a ladder. Furthermore, the employee is routinely expected to sit while utilizing hands and eyes for computer operation. Essential vision criteria encompass both close and color vision capabilities. The employee must frequently lift and/or carry items weighing over 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
Employee may work in areas with high noise levels. Lighting and temperature levels vary throughout work areas for this job and include outdoor temperatures. Work surfaces and terrain may be uneven.
