The Huntington Museum of Art is offering a free informational Docent Open House on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for those who are interested in becoming volunteer art and nature tour guides. Light refreshments will be served.

“If you think you would like to share your appreciation for art and nature with visitors of all ages to the Huntington Museum of Art, then Docent Open House is for you,” said HMA Director of Education Cindy Dearborn. “Docents give tours of our exhibits and nature trails. No previous experience in giving tours is necessary and all docents are thoroughly trained and supported by HMA staff members.”

Docents gather on Monday mornings at the Huntington Museum of Art during the fall and spring for informal art training sessions with the staff members of HMA’s Education Department. “It would not be possible for the Huntington Museum of Art to provide the number of tours that we do without our docents,” Dearborn said. “Lasting friendships have been formed by many of our volunteer docents. Being a docent is so rewarding when you see students and adults enjoying their visits to the Huntington Museum of Art.”
