HMA to Present “Small Town Universe” Documentary on Oct. 27, 2026

The Huntington Museum of Art will present director Katie Dellamaggiore’s documentary film titled “Small Town Universe” on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. on the big screen in HMA’s Grace Rardin Doherty Auditorium.

Admission to this 4th Tuesday Tour Event is free. A question-and-answer session with NASA Solar System Ambassador Ellie White, who is featured in the 90-minute documentary, will follow the showing of the film. Deana White, who is Ellie White’s mom and in the film, will also take part in the question-and-answer session.

Because of the length of the film, which focuses on Green Bank, W.Va., and the Green Bank Telescope, and the question-and-answer session that follows, refreshments will not be served at the event. However, while supplies last, a small bag of treats will be available for visitors to take home after the event.

“The Huntington Museum of Art is so pleased to welcome NASA Solar System Ambassador Ellie White back for this film showing,” said HMA Director of Education Cindy Dearborn. “HMA is also grateful to the producers of ‘Small Town Universe’ for allowing us to present this documentary.”

For more information about the documentary, visit smalltownuniversefilm.com. For more information about HMA events or membership, visit hmoa.org or call (304) 529-2701. HMA is fully accessible.

West Virginia residents may obtain a summary of the registration and financial documents from the Secretary of State, State Capitol, Charleston, WV 25305. Registration does not imply endorsement.

The following film description was provided in the press materials for “Small Town Universe”:

“Small Town Universe” is directed by Katie Dellamaggiore (SXSW Audience Award Winner “Brooklyn Castle”), and set in Green Bank, W.Va., where life unfolds in the quiet zone of the world’s largest steerable radio telescope. The film traces the telescope’s history and role in the search for extraterrestrial life, the STEM opportunities it offers rural students, and the community’s fight to protect it when funding is threatened.
