SILK MOTH PROJECT
ART, EDUCATION, AND NATURE
The missions of the museum – Art, Education, and Nature – came together wonderfully in our From Rugs to Riches: Treasured Textiles from the Permanent Collection exhibition. Silk moth eggs were obtained and hatched. The caterpillars were raised to adulthood in our C. Fred Edwards Conservatory and cocoons and preserved specimens representing the various stages of their life cycle were on view. The silk moth’s cocoon is the source of the silk fibers used for the production of silk fabric.
