The Museum Store at the Huntington Museum of Art is sponsoring a T-shirt design competition in youth and adult categories with the theme: “To Enrich the Lives of All the People.”
“We know there are so many talented artists in our community and we wanted to give them the opportunity to showcase their work through this T-shirt Design Competition,” said Mollie Ashworth, HMA Museum Store Manager.
Submissions for the competition can be entered now through just before midnight on Sept. 27, with the youth category covering ages 5 to 17 and the adult category covering those 18 and older. Artists entering the competition must live within 50 miles of the Huntington Museum of Art and submit an original design and follow all the competition rules, which can be accessed at https://hmoa.org/t-shirt-design-contest/
One winning design from each age group will be screen printed on T-shirts and sold in the Museum Store, with the winner of each age group receiving their design on a free shirt for themself and up to four immediate family members. The winning designs will be featured on HMA’s website and Facebook and Instagram pages. The winner in each category will receive a $25 HMA membership, which is good for 12 months and includes a 10 percent discount in HMA’s Museum Store. The winning designer in each of the two categories will also receive a $500 cash prize.
The competition theme comes from a guiding principle that HMA has embraced and prominently displays in its Virginia Van Zandt Great Hall.
All the rules to enter the competition in addition to an application form can be found at https://hmoa.org/t-shirt-design-contest/ To enter, a completed form and design must be submitted to Mollie Ashworth at [email protected] before the end of the day on Sept. 27.
Up to four finalists in both the youth and adult categories will be selected by a panel of judges and will appear on HMA’s Facebook page beginning Oct. 7 and running through Oct. 13 during which time the public can vote. The design in each of the two categories with the most likes or reactions will win.
Decisions of the HMA judging panel will be final and all competition rules will apply. There is no fee to enter the competition, but contestants must submit original designs and should familiarize themselves with all the contest rules.
